About The Project

Video game music resources, in-depth analysis and music theory discussion of video game soundtracks breaking them down from multiple angles. Here we explore the cultural influences and musical precedents of some of the most famousĀ tracks in gaming. We pay respect to the tradition, its history and the composers that brought the full package alive with their tunes. Established around the insights originally from the Youtube channel Visualizer Music Tracks which provides educational video game music analysis through instrument visualizations made with the intended original samples and sequences straight from the games themselves. This is pretty much the Deluxe Edition.

Are you curious about how your favorite composers build their songs? Well, say no more. Let’s embark together on a quest to uncover the blocks that make up a song; whether a noisy rock track or the sweeping orchestral compositions used in our favorite video game OSTs. The Shrine intends to dig as much of the original sounds and techniques used by composers and sound designers who worked on the games. Having a background in music and audio production combined with the access to information on how composers use the tools of the trade and instrument lists and deep passion for the craft of game design, we will be analyzing how songs were made and speculate what is the origin of the sounds we hear from both a musical composition and cultural directresses.

You can enjoy the project from multiple perspectives, wether you like the musical aspect or just the culture and original inspirations behind the games themselves you will surely find lots of interesting trivia about the development of the games and their original source material. Video game music specifically is also a rich resource for any kind of composer or musician since it is music accustomed to be memorable while having to be repetitive and also convey the emotions the player needs to be feeling at any moment. It is also a perfect way to explore the musical sensibilities of various cultures across the entire world since composers wanting to match their environments often opt for studying the music from various regions. Even in you don’t have a musical background you can still follow with the examples and the musical visualizations provided. All in all, a rich way to study music all around. There will be some unorthodox methods of looking at the music theory since most soundtrack tracks are modal but rest assured that what is tries to be conveyed at all times is the thought process behind the music. Hopefully you can engage with the posts and add your own insights and memories that you associate with these games.

So take off your shoes traveller, open your ears and listen closely to the sounds reverberating on this shrine, from electronic beeps to monumental orchestras. We are just paying our respects.
